DAILY NEWS - PAGE 4 The cost of poor health has increased, with doctors’ fees being 5.1 percent more expensive than they were a year ago; dentists’ fees increasing by 4.8 percent and hospital fees by 3.9 percent. The rise in medical insurance fees were a notable contributor to the consumer price index (CPI) which increased by one percent monthon- month in February, according to the latest figures released by Statistics SA (Stats SA). FNB economist Matlhodi Matsei said CPI for personal care perked up by 2.3 percent year-on-year from 1.7 percent previously. Furthermore, the February 2020 survey for medical aid and private healthcare costs revealed a jump in insurance inflation to 7.7 percent year-on-year (7.1 percent previously) - the highest level in two years.
